Why Donate?

If Arrowsmith Search & Rescue (ASAR) has helped you, your family or friends, and you believe as we do, ASAR is an essential service for the community, providing a donation will help ASAR continue into the future. Saving lives. Bringing the lost and injured home.

Your donation will help Arrowsmith Search & Rescue continue to provide land and inland water search and rescue services and wilderness public safety education in the Oceanside Arrowsmith Region.

Donations over $25 are tax deductible. ASAR offers you multiple payment options and plans.

Why Your Donation is Important.

Financial support for Arrowsmith Search & Rescue (ASAR) comes from provincial and regional governments, Service Clubs, Foundations, local businesses and residents. Donations given by the public and money raised through fundraising are used to deliver training, purchase and replacement of rescue vehicles, equipment and gears, and cover the variable costs of the team. Construction of our new Operation Centre relies heavily on contributions from the community.

Team members are all volunteer and not paid. They are responsible for purchasing and supplying their own personal equipment. This includes technical clothing, footwear, personal electronics and the contents of a 24 hour survival pack.

Donate Your Vehicle

Donate a Car Canada accepts vehicle donations for Arrowsmith Search and Rescue Society. Free towing is provided in most areas across Canada, or you can drop off your vehicle to maximize your donation. When you donate your car, truck, RV, boat, or motorcycle to ASAR, it will either be recycled or sold at auction (depending on its condition, age and location). Donate a Car Canada will look after all the details to make it easy for ASAR to benefit. After your vehicle donation is complete, we will send you a tax receipt and will put your gift to good use. Donation Match Programs

Many employers in British Columbia match their employee’s fundraising efforts and donations. By making use of a corporate gift matching program offered by your place of work, your gift to Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society can be doubled and even tripled! Some companies have policies that allow former employees to have their gifts matched as well.

Ask your employer if your company will match your support of the Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society! Your payroll or HR departments should be able to help you find out, and if your company does match, ask about the process – there may be a form to fill out or your company may have an online tool. Make sure you’ve already made your gift, as you may need to provide your tax receipt.

If your company doesn’t have a matching gift program, ask them to consider matching your gift anyway or starting a program now. Your generosity might impress them so much that they say yes!

Legacy Gifts

Consider Leaving a Legacy to Help Us Continue to Bringing the Lost and Injured Home

Leaving a legacy gift to Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society is a great way to honour your lifetime values, and make a difference in your community while reducing your tax burden now and into the future. For more information on the importance of legacy giving and some valuable information on how to do so visit leavealegacy.ca. Leave A Legacy™ is a donor-oriented education campaign by the Canadian Association of Gift Planners to raise awareness of the importance of including a charitable gift in the estate planning process.

Wills

When you write your will, you can make a bequest in the form of cash or property by including Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society as a beneficiary. You may also make a residual bequest to Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society; a residual bequest is a gift of all or a fraction of whatever remains after all debts, taxes, expenses and other bequests are paid. Here is an example of what you can write:

“I give to Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society (Charitable Registration Number: 893193979 RR 0001), currently located 1050 Ravensbourne Lane, Qualicum Beach, B.C., V9K 1N1, the sum of $_______ (or ________% of my estate) to be used in support of its general charitable purposes.”

Life Insurance Policy

You can name Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society as the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. A gift of life insurance is separate from your estate and has no effect on its assets. Please consult a financial advisor or lawyer for more information.

Donating Assets-Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds

If you own stocks, bonds, or mutual funds shares that are traded on certain stock exchanges, you can donate them to Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society. The impact on your taxes is substantial. Please consult a financial advisor for more information on how to go about making this kind of donation.

Retirement Funds

You may also give a gift of RSP or RIF funds by naming your estate as the beneficiary and then providing an equivalent bequest to Arrowsmith Search & Rescue Society.

Cause-Related Marketing

Some businesses may wish to donate to ASAR through purchase-triggered donations (PTD) and/or cause related marketing. Cause related marketing occurs when a business offers its items or services on the premise that some or all of the revenues generated will be donated to a registered charity. The business partners with a charity (ASAR) to donate the whole or a portion of their profits made when customers purchase their goods or services. While the consumer triggers the charitable donation through his or her purchase, the business administers the purchase offer, the purchase financial transaction, the minimum or maximum donation limit, and the actual donation to the charity. As such, the business receives the tax benefits from this type of charitable donation.

ASAR appreciates the interest of all who wish to organize cause-related marketing promotions to support our mission. However, these promotions must be pre-approved by the ASAR Board of Directors as there may be issues related to the promotion’s scope, timing, procedures, and anticipated returns that are in conflict with existing cause-related marketing or ASAR’s gift acceptance policy.

Please complete and submit ASAR’s Cause-Related Marketing Proposal and Agreement (Appendix A) to initiate our review process.

Approval of cause-related marketing promotions is at the sole discretion of the ASAR Board of Directors.

Personal Fundraising

Supporters of ASAR may want to fundraise on our behalf by creating online campaigns on Facebook or GoFundMe. Common campaigns include:

ASAR appreciates and welcomes those interested in fundraising on our behalf, and strongly recommend using well established, reputable online platforms, such as CanadaHelps and PayPal Giving Fund (used by both Facebook or GoFundMe). Those platforms will ensure individual donors receive official tax receipts and that the funds generated will be deposited directly to ASAR.

Since personal fundraising campaigns identify ASAR as the beneficiary, they must be pre-approved by the ASAR Board of Directors as there may be issues related to the campaign’s scope, timing, procedures, and anticipated returns that are in conflict with existing fundraising activities or ASAR’s gift acceptance policy. Please complete and submit ASAR’s Personal Fundraising Proposal and Agreement to initiate our review process.

Approval of personal fundraising on behalf of ASAR is at the sole discretion of the ASAR Board of Directors.
